My Writing
I was a constant source of annoyance to my English teacher, Mrs Keeble. I never put in a moment's effort in her classes until I had to do something that would count towards a final grade. The fact I demonstrated enough ability to get pushed forward half a year, and then passed my 'O'Level with a decent grade just annoyed her all the more. Once I had the qualification she found cause to chuck me out of her class, never to return. I suppose the fact I was playing football in her class when she wasn't there was justification of that. Ahem... Writing was never really my thing though. My colleagues would cast me odd looks when I volunteered to write some technical documentation for a project, but little was ever made of the fact I rather enjoyed it, either by me or anyone else. Until I got to Perth, that is. Perth isn't a great place to be a software developer. There isn't any software industry here as such, and work is pretty thin on the ground to put it mildly. So I decided I was going to spend my time here being a writer instead. If I couldn't do development work I could at least write articles telling people how to do development work. Most of my writing was bought by the Open Source Development Group (or whatever they call themselves these days) and published at their Newsforge and Devchannel websites. I've also had work published by Linux Journal, both online and in print. You can see a listing of my articles in the professional section of this website. |
